Self-Esteem

Our thoughts are triggered primarily by how we feel at a given moment or situation. When our emotions are consistently negative, our thoughts will be consistently negative. And since our brains transform thoughts into behavior, it’s a no-brainer that we’ll behave in ways that are not conducive to success and wellbeing.

The following 5 emotions could be holding you back from finding happiness. They’ll bring out the worst, rather than the best in you. Monitor your emotions and the resulting thoughts and behaviors and you’ll begin to understand why happiness and personal success are often so elusive.

  1. Fear

Fear of failure, fear of taking risks, fear of change, fear of rejection… we’re bombarded by countless fears that can cripple us unless we learn to take control of them –  because fear equals inaction.

Stay alert to your specific fears and learn to control them with positive self-talk, affirmations and meditation. You can also eliminate fears by confronting them and reflecting on whether they’re justified. In most cases, they’re not. And in most cases. Fear can be eliminated by nothing more than good planning.

  • Insecurity

Insecurity includes financial insecurity, job insecurity or emotional insecurity that results from unhealthy relationships. It’s not hard to see how this emotion can consume your self-confidence and prey on your deepest fears.

Overcome insecurities by taking action. This could include seeing a financial advisor, honing your job skills or improving (or getting out of) unhealthy relationships.

When you start taking positive action to eliminate insecurity, your brain will register this and continue to keep you proactive and confident.

  • Anger

Anger is a toxic emotion that poisons your brain and body by raising stress hormone levels. Whether you express your anger in unhealthy outbursts or repress it, the result is the same – very low moods, metal fog and no motivation.

Address your anger by expressing it verbally in a calm and healthy manner. If this isn’t possible, release it through vigorous physical activity or by venting in a journal. Whatever you do, never keep anger bottles up. It will continue to influence your thoughts even when you’re not actively thinking about them.

  • Self-doubt

Failures and setbacks cause us to doubt ourselves and feel unworthy. These emotions will immediately trigger negative self-talk that keeps you in a state of hesitation, anxiety and inaction. That nagging inner voice will tell you that you’re a loser, that you can’t do anything right and that you’re destined to fail.

Monitor your self-talk and when it starts up, replace it with positive affirmations of all of your past successes, your unique skills and talents and your amazing potential to achieve great things.

This really works. Your brain will start to replace the negative with the positive thoughts and indeed, guide you towards your greatness.

  • Ingratitude

Most of us typically focus on what we lack, bemoan our luck and envy others who have more. Ingratitude is another toxic emotion that breeds nothing but disillusionment and bitterness. It makes you lose track of your purpose.

When you learn to be grateful for what you do have, the whole picture changes. Gratitude is an amazing emotion that floods your brain with positive empowering thoughts that can literally manifest more abundance into your life!

All you need to do is look around you and notice all of the wonderful things you’ve been taking for granted that make your life so much better.

Conclusion

Learning to master your emotions will change your outlook on life by changing your thoughts. Positive, optimistic, grateful and empowering thoughts will fire up your brain. I will manifest those thoughts into positive, productive and success-boosting behavior.

Start shaping a better, happier more successful you by learning to master these 5 limiting emotions and experience for yourself the amazing results.
